Immune Boosting Smoothie

The winter blues are in full swing here in the PNW, and that means people are getting sick. Now more than ever, it is important to keep your immune system happy and healthy by incorporating beneficial fruits and vegetables. Immune boosting foods can help you fight off colds, the flu, allergies, and decrease inflammation. We’ve lined up an immunity boosting smoothie to help you through the last stretch of winter, incorporating things like ginger, spinach, turmeric, and oranges!

Vitamin C: This smoothie is packed with vitamin C from spinach and oranges which build your immune system and help your body to fight off infections.

Antioxidants: Spinach, oranges, and kiwis promote overall health and work to prevent diseases.

Anti-Inflammatory: Ginger and turmeric are powerful anti inflammatory ingredients that can fight any persistent inflammation from sickness.

Minerals and vitamins: Spirulina and Philosophy Green Dream provide the body with a multitude of important minerals. Spirulina is packed full of vitamins A, K1, K2, B12 and iron, manganese and chromium. Green Dream includes blue-green algae that is packed with nutrients including iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, selenium, chromium, vitamin B-12, and protein.

This smoothie is:

tangy and tropical

naturally sweet + spicy

full of vitamins and minerals

and it’s delicious!

Bala’s Immunity Boosting Smoothie:

Green Smoothie

  • One large handful of spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kiwi
  • 2 tsp Spirulina
  • 1 tbsp Philosophy Green Dream (pick up a bag in our Fremont or Kirkland studios) 
  • 1/2 cup filtered water or coconut water

Orange Smoothie

  • 1 chunk of Ginger, peeled
  • 2 Oranges
  • ¾ cup Pineapple
  • 1 ½ tsp Turmeric (either dried or fresh)
  • 1/2 cup filtered water or coconut water

Optional Decoration + Add-Ins:

  • Kiwi slice 
  • Thin orange slices (round)
  • Chia seeds
  • Flax seeds


**Begin with the Orange Smoothie portion to avoid washing your blender! 

  1. Add all of the ingredients from the Orange smoothie to your blender. Start with the designated amount of liquid and add any more as needed
  2. Pour your blended Orange smoothie into a glass and set aside in the freezer or another cool place.
  3. Place all of your ingredients for the Green smoothie into the blender and add liquid as needed.
  4. Remove your Orange smoothie and pour your Green smoothie on top.
  5. Feel free to top your smoothie with healthy extras like flax or chia seeds. 
  6. Sit back and enjoy your immune boosting, Instagram ready smoothie at home or on your way to your next yoga class!

Feel free to make your smoothie in layers, or just blend everything together at once for a delicious mix. This smoothie is a quick, and easy to make addition to your day, and it makes for a perfect breakfast or snack!
